We are fortunate to be able to devote much of our time to the Houston community and one of our most cherished programs is with The Gathering Place. Through a combination of physical movement, socializing, music and other memory stimulating activities, The Gathering Place works to create a safe environment for people suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other memory-related problems, to have a good time while taking steps to improve their memory.
With a professional on hand at all times, volunteers create a safe and fun get-together for everyone. The Gathering Place meets once a month, for three hours, to give dedicated caregivers a well-deserved break to attend to their personal needs without worry.
It has been our absolute pleasure to donate cakes to make these meetings even sweeter.
The program meets at Congregation Beth Yeshurun. If you know someone who could benefit from The Gathering Place, are interested in donating or sponsoring a program, or would like to set up a program in a neighborhood near you, contact Lillie Hurwitz at lilliehur@gmail.com or Hedy Spiegel at hedy1234@aol.com.
We are so thankful for all the volunteers and caregivers who give their time and encouragement for these special loved ones. We’re looking forward to making sweets for The Gathering Place participants for years to come!
