As Thanksgiving passes and the kids start to make their Christmas and Hanukkah lists, we want to take a moment to reflect on the true spirit of the holiday season: giving, not getting.
At Three Brothers Bakery, we are fortunate to have been given so much. Our founding brothers – Sigmund, Max and Sol – knew firsthand that many of the luxuries we tend to take for granted were far from guaranteed. They knew the pains of oppression, hunger and loss. They later received gifts of extraordinary kindness and love, two qualities we work hard to continue to show our community today.
One longstanding tradition of the bakery is donating extra goods to Star of Hope. There is simply no reason why these items should go to waste when so many Houstonians struggle to put food on their own tables. After being featured on Good Morning America’s Deals and Steals with Tory Johnson, we received a surprise donation of $10,000 from Vistaprint to continue this work in Houston. As Bobby said, “My dad and his brothers, founding brothers and Holocaust survivors, know the struggle of real hunger, and believe no one should be without food. Vistaprint’s generous donation will help us continue our work to feed the homeless in Houston.”

But our commitment to helping Houstonians in need does not end there. Janice serves on the board of Susan G. Komen Houston to spread the word about breast cancer prevention, treatment and the need for a cure. We sell pink-ribbon themed treats during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month not merely to tie in with the color of the month; a portion of the proceeds from these items goes directly to fund the work of Komen Houston.
We also participate in events such as the Camp Culinary Challenge to benefit Camp for All, an organization committed to creating communities for children and adults living with challenging illnesses. Our sweet treats taste even better when they are being served for a good cause.
So as you do your holiday shopping, consider giving a gift to one of the organizations listed above. Your contribution could mean the world to someone in need.
