Happy early 4th of July! We love celebrating this sweet holiday. There’s so much do, see and, of course, eat.

Come see us for all your Fourth of July needs.

If you’re looking for fun things to do for the Fourth, we suggest Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park or the Star Spangled Salute at the Cynthia Wood Mitchell Pavilion with Sheryl Crow and our favorite singer, Martina McBride. Both are sure to be tons of fun for the whole family!

While the picnics and fireworks may ensure you have a terrific celebration, more importantly, remember what this day is all about: our great country and the people who have fought for our freedoms. Be sure to thank someone who was or is in the military.

In honor of our great country we thought you’d enjoy these some history and fun Flag Facts for your Fourth festivities:

The early American flag.
  • Robert Heft designed the current flag as a school project after Hawaii and Alaska were added. He received a B- because his teacher thought it lacked creativity.
  • The flag’s colors all have meaning. Red: valor, zeal and fervency. White: hope, purity cleanliness of life and rectitude of conduct. Blue: color of the heavens, loyalty, sincerity, justice and truth.
  • George Washington said this of the American Flag, “ We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our Mother country separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing Liberty.”

What are your plans for Independence Day? Share them with us on Facebook and Twitter. Also check out our Entertaining board on Pinterest for some great 4th of July cookout ideas.

And remember, if you’re planning on grilling out this weekend come see us first. We have all the hamburger and hotdog buns as well as all, of course, the desserts you could possibly need. Pick up a cake, or better yet snag a party tray that is sure to have something for everyone.

Both of our locations will be open, 6:30 am- 5:00 pm on July 4th this year (2013).
