Sweet Love Stories

February 5, 2014

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we thought we’d share a couple of our love stories. If you’ve heard them before bear with us, but really they’re so sweet you can read to them again! Bobby and Janice have a story that starts back in their early teens but doesn’t come to fruition until years later. The two met at a Jewish youth group weekend (BBYO), when Janice was […]

Susan G. Komen – A Memory From The Early Years

September 28, 2012

In the early 1990s I was working at a telecommunications company in Dallas. Someone in our company met Nancy Brinker who had just created a charity called Susan G. Komen, in memory of her sister and with the purpose to wipe out breast cancer. It was a fledgling operation and finally they were moving into an office. Our company donated a phone system, and I was the liaison between our […]

Made in America? Ralph Lauren Where in America?

July 26, 2012

Ralph Lauren’s Olympic uniforms were made in China with a promise next time they will be made in America.  My question is where in America?  We pushed this industry away from our skilled hands into the hands of those living in other countries.  Shuttered sewing factories can be found all over the nation, including San Antonio where my family had a contract sewing factory in the 1990s. (Just a reminder […]

The Renaissance of the Groom’s Cake

April 30, 2012

Wedding season is upon us and many, especially in the northern, Midwest and eastern U.S. ask what is a Groom’s cake? Just ask a Southerner from the United States to hear about the “must have” of the Southern wedding. “After a century of transformation, the Groom’s cake of today expresses the personality of the Groom,” explained Bobby

Plain and Simple: Why I Am Continuing Support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

April 22, 2012

As  a breast cancer survivor I wanted to explain why I continue to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Please also note:  I am writing this blog post on my own and from my heart. I have no affiliation with the organization except for occasional volunteer and annual walker in Race for the Cure. In the wake of the decision to not support Planned Parenthood and reversal of the […]

Hamantaschen Baked in Texas Are Not Just for Purim Anymore

March 7, 2012

Could Hamantaschen be going mainstream? According to Bobby Jucker, 5th generation baker and co-owner of Three Brothers Bakery, “Based on our daily sales, I believe the Hamantaschen will take on a life similar to the bagel or ruggelach. In 2011 we sold approximately 35,000.” Hamantaschen, a triangle shaped cookie filled with usually poppy, prune or apricot, and sold in most places only during the Jewish holiday of Purim are found daily at Three Brothers Bakery in none other than Houston, Texas.

Robin and Josh: We Will Help Continue Life As You Would Want for Peter, Aaron and Willa

July 29, 2011

It is Friday, and I have to take a moment to remember Robin Perlo Berry and her husband, Josh Berry.  Robin came to the bakery for a challah every Friday. We began to know each other over our counter and then again professionally as she planned events for our customers’ life cycle events. When someone hired Robin to help with their simcha (happy event), she became a part of the […]
